Children & Young People
Counselling children and young people requires different skills to counselling adults. I have completed a Post Qualifying Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People and have experience of working with children and young people from the age of 5 years. I have a special interest in working with teenagers and young adults.
Adoption Support Agency- Counselling Clients Affected by Adoption
The Adoption and Children’s Act 2002 became effective from 30th December 2005. The purpose of the Act was to ensure that those affected by adoption are provided with services from a suitably qualified and experienced practitioner who is able to meet the needs of this particular client group.
Under the Act private practitioners, including counsellors and psychotherapists who offer services to those affected by adoption must be registered as an Adoption Support Agency or ASA with OFSTED. To work with this particular client group and not be registered breaches the law.
My practice was registered as an Adoption Support Agency in March 2007. This registration requires that my practice is inspected by OFSTED every 3 years. My first inspection was in August 2007 and the report is available to view on the OFSTED website. My service was rated as good, which is the highest award possible for the first inspection.
I am also a member of CASA (The Consortium of Adoption Support Agencies)
Supervision
I hold a Diploma in Clinical Supervision and offer supervision to counsellors, psychotherapists and other helping professionals, such as social workers, support workers and community workers. I have considerable experience working with trainee and newly qualified counsellors, as well as with experienced practitioners.
As with counselling, supervision is a contracted, professional relationship. I believe supervision should be a stimulating, motivational process for the supervisee in which challenge and reflection are very much a part.
However, supervision should also ensure a duty of care to both to the supervisee and their clients. It should also work to ensure the maintenance of ethical practice and the continued professional development of the supervisee.
